Performing Modular System – Born from Practice, Built for Flexibility
Ekeko emerged from the practical needs of sound artist Juan Orozco, who was searching for a modular system that could adapt fluidly between studio work and live performance. What began as a set of personal design ideas quickly evolved into a close collaboration with Berlin-based carpenter and builder Heiko Engelage.
Together, they developed Ekeko: a system of Eurorack cases and universal holders designed with attention to portability, modularity, and tactile experience. Their partnership brought together two distinct yet complementary perspectives — one rooted in sound and performance, the other in material craft and technical precision.
The resulting cases come in several configurations: 6U 84HP, 6U 104HP, and 7U 104HP. The 7U model includes a movable 1U row that can be placed at the top, middle, or bottom, depending on the user’s workflow. Each case includes a power distribution system specifically designed in collaboration with Manecolabs, offering stable current and abundant connectivity.
A distinctive feature of Ekeko is its foldable handle, which fits seamlessly into the case frame, enhancing portability — especially when traveling or flying. An attachable strap makes the system even more travel-friendly without compromising functionality.
In addition to the cases, they designed a set of modular holders that support not only Ekeko cases but also semi-modular synths, desktop machines, pedals, or tablets. These elements are universal, adjustable, and extendable — created to support a variety of setups while maintaining clarity, stability, and comfort.
Every part of the system is handcrafted in Alt-Treptow, Berlin, and reflects a process of experimentation, use, and shared authorship. Ekeko is a joint creation — co-designed and co-owned by Juan Orozco and Heiko Eigelagen — shaped by their mutual interest in building tools that support creative flexibility, sonic exploration, and long-term use.
The final prototypes are now being completed. Ekeko will soon be available for sale in limited quantities.
