Otherthings is a platform created by Juan Orozco that extends his exploration of sound as a critical and expanded practice. Emerging from a laboratory of experimentation and instrument design, it develops tools, practices, and collaborations that question how technology shapes artistic production and listening.
Some of these creations, developed in collaboration with other artists, have become central to the platform: with Manecolabs, reimagining the Drawdio and creating the Minisynth — playful, hands-on tools for introducing concepts of sound, modular electronics, and creativity within a STEAME (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics & Education) framework; and with Heiko Engelage, developing the Ekeko series of Eurorack cases and universal holders for modular performance setups.
Through workshops and participatory projects — including three consecutive years at minibooth in Berlin — Otherthings has expanded its pedagogical scope, fostering curiosity and experimentation among participants of all ages, and building a transgenerational sound community that connects people through shared practices of making and listening.
Its curatorial branch, OT Series, gathers recordings, performances, and experiments organized in thematic series — each becoming a site of listening where sound unfolds as both material and concept across the shifting edges of art and music.
